This technical report comprehensively introduces the government regulations and programmes related to forest inventorying, monitoring and assessment from the past and present in Vietnam. This report was put together as a first step for the consideration of a land monitoring system for REDD+.

Washington, January 10, 2013 – In a boost for global efforts to combat climate change and tropical deforestation, Finland, Germany, and Norway have each announced new financial contributions totaling approximately US$180 million to the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), the World Bank administered facility that was set up to compensate developing countries for reductions in carbon dioxide emissions achieved by preserving their forests.

The UN-REDD Programme organized its Tenth Policy Board meeting from 26 to 27 June in Indonesia. The event was attended by 107 participants from more than 28 countries, including representatives from the Programme’s partner and donor countries along with permanent observers from the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility, and representatives of indigenous and civil society organizations.

In the Asia-Pacific region, UN-REDD Programme partner countries have generated numerous lessons that may be relevant for REDD+ readiness and implementation in other countries.

“Forest Carbon projects are not quick and easy, and they are not cheap“, say private sector forest carbon project developers across Asia. How has the private sector engaged across the region? What have been the main challenges in different countries? What lessons have been learnt?" We set about to investigate the private sector engagement & experience in REDD+ in Asia.
The private sector is one of the key actors developing forest carbon projects across several countries in Asia along with government agencies, NGOs, and multilateral and bilateral donor projects. By private sector engagement, we mean projects developed by private enterprises or with private sector investment in the early stages.
