To celebrate the International Day of Forests this year, 21st March 2017, at the Primary School of Quan Binh Commune, Bach Thong District, the UN-REDD+ Programme Management Board in Bac Kan province, in cooperation with Bac Kan provincial Youth Union and the People's Committee of Quan Binh Commune, organized a meeting and launched the planting ceremony.
Participants included leaders of the provincial Youth Union, Women's Union, Farmer's Union, leaders of DARD, agencies under DARD, members of the communication and REDD+ network, Youth Union members from agriculture sector, Youth Union members from Quan Binh commune and representatives of REDD+ communes, together with 160 teachers and students of Quan Binh Primary School.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, Deputy Director of Bac Kan DARD, highlighted the role and importance of forests in human life and environmental protection, as well as the responsibilities of the agriculture sector, responsibilities of the authorities and local people in Bac Kan province in forest protection and and development.
Mr. Nong Van Thang, Secretary of the Youth Union of the agriculture sector recalled the history of the International Day of Forests and the theme of the International Day for Forests in 2017. On be half of nearly 100 Youth Union members of the agriculture sector and Quan Binh commune in the meeting, he promised contribution of the Youth Union to joint efforts of forest protection and development, with the motto: “protect forests for ourselves and our future generations.”
After the meeting, the participants joined the planting ceremony in Na Po village. More than 2,000 trees were planted to promote forest restoration in Bac Kan province.
