Second Regional Consultation between Indigenous Peoples Organizations from Asia and the Pacific and the UN-REDD+ Programme: Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) Processes and Recourse Mechanisms

Second Regional Consultation between Indigenous Peoples Organizations from Asia and the Pacific and the UN-REDD+ Programme: Free, Prior and Informed Consent Processes and Recourse Mechanisms for REDD+

16 – 18 June 2010

Plaza Rooms 2 & 3, Sofitel Plaza Hotel, Hanoi, Viet Nam

Purpose of the Consultation: The purpose of the second regional Asia and the Pacific UN-REDD+ Programme consultation with Indigenous Peoples is to initiate a three-step process to develop guidelines on free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) and recourse for the UN-REDD+ Programme. The initial guidelines will be elaborated through a series of regional follow-up dialogues (in Latin America and Africa) and via a public comment and input process. The resulting guidelines will be added as an annex to the UN-REDD+ Programme Operational Guidance on the Engagement of Indigenous Peoples and other Forest Dependent Communities.

Desired Outcome: An initial set of definitions, recommendations, and guidelines for FPIC processes and recourse mechanisms to be applied to the UN-REDD+ Programme to inform subsequent regional dialogues.
